ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING CLUB:  THE FLOW OF DANE COUNTY

Step into this miniature of Dane County, where we show how clean water keeps everything moving! In this hands-on exhibit, you’ll follow water as it travels from homes to lakes, through pipes, drains, and treatment centers, all while discovering the engineering systems that keep it clean and safe. Explore a fully working filtration model that transforms “dirty” water back into clear, usable water, and learn how this treated water makes its way back to households and the environment. Kids will also take on the role of junior water engineers by building their own water filters using simple materials like plastic bottles, sand, gravel, cotton balls, and activated charcoal. Along the way, they’ll experiment, test, and see firsthand how real-life water treatment works. This interactive exhibit brings the entire water cycle to life. We invite families to explore, build, and imagine how smarter designs and sustainable engineering can help create cleaner, healthier, and more resilient cities for the future!

CLASH WITH KAPPA ETA KAPPA

Kappa Eta Kappa (KHK) is a 102-year-old professional engineering and computer science co-ed fraternity. The fraternity focuses on academic involvement and industry connections, while still participating in the social aspect of fraternities. The rush season is around 3 weeks long at the beginning of each semester. KHK has participated in the Engineering Expo for several semesters, with this most recent project being a 80s de-make of Clash Royale. Our computer engineers are working to fabricate the physical base of the machine and working with hardware to create the inner workings of the game, and our software engineers and computer scientists are working to code and create the game from scratch. KHK has a wide variety of people, including creative minds like Matthew and Katie for creating the artwork behind the game, creating pixel sprites of the various characters in the game. Alex created the base of the arcade, and our computer scientists, James, Mike, and Rachith, worked to code the main lines of the game. Kevin is responsible for the sound effects. This expo project was designed to entertain younger (and potentially older!) students. The main drivers and leaders of the expo project are Rachith Anasuri and Katarina Bauer, who’ve secured funding from KHK’s alumni association for the project. Together, they’ve kept everyone on track and created a successful project which we hope to share with everyone!
