Eventually, Goldstein spoke to Ford and sold him the role
When asked by Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel, and Bill Lawrence how Harrison Ford was cast in the show, Segel said that Goldstein initially wanted a “Harrison Ford type,” and was going to audition people who looked like Ford. Segel told Goldstein that he thought he would at least bring it to Ford, but at least he would get the word out that Harrison Ford had brought the project to him, generating interest from other famous actors.

Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was excited nonetheless.. From the reviews I read here, it seems like people either love this show or hate it vehemently, and it feels like it depends on the reviewers’ reaction to Jason Segel.
The relationships are complex and emotional, and the real human challenges are well drawn
I enjoy his movies and I think he’s perfect for this role — the addition of Harrison Ford takes the show to another level. The writing is great, the story is fresh and the characters are original without going overboard with stereotypes too cheesy.
It can be laugh-out-loud funny the next minute and tear-jerking the next
I was really disappointed to find out I had to wait longer after the second episode. Highly recommend!
